Why Pivot?
The Pivot Program is an opportunity for formerly incarcerated people to advance their careers and pursue their passion for business, entrepreneurship, and education. Graduates from the program earn a certificate in business and entrepreneurship from Georgetown University and gain professional work experience.
Participants take classes with Georgetown faculty, work in internships in local businesses and nonprofits, and have access to business coaches and mentors. Our entrepreneurship curriculum combines training in business fundamentals, like accounting, marketing and strategy, with technical and communications skills and leadership development.
The program is designed to prepare graduates for a range of outcomes: professional employment, owning their own businesses, and continuing their education.

What to Expect
The Pivot Program is a full-time commitment, which requires Fellows to be available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Given these expectations, Pivot Program Fellows will receive a weekly stipend to support themselves for the duration of the program. Classes are held virtually and in person at the Georgetown Prisons and Justice Initiative, located near the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro stop at 509 7th Street NW.
The curriculum combines training in the fundamentals of business and entrepreneurship with a series of personal and professional development modules such as personal finance, career planning, business communications and business etiquette, public speaking, self-advocacy, and conflict resolution.
While fellows are not required to start a business, they are taught how to adopt and apply an entrepreneurial mindset to their own their career goals.
