Donta Ellerbe

MEET DONTA:

Donte has lived in the DC area his whole life, and he was a Junior ROTC cadet in high school. He went on to serve three years in the U.S. Navy as an aviation ordnanceman where he observed and managed the flight deck. He has training in residential electrical wiring and HVAC repairs, and he is curious to learn more about property management, home improvement, and construction because he likes the idea of working on a project that is built to last. He is working toward a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Goucher College, where his favorite class that he has taken so far was “Sociology of Masculinity.” In this class, he learned about the subtleties of hegemonic masculinities and what they mean for men of all races and ethnicities. Donte is a self-taught musician who sings, plays the drums, and plays the keyboard. He has been a library card holder since he was six, and his favorite book is One Thousand Splendid Suns. He is a father of three, including a 19 year-old studying at George Mason, and a 10 year-old and an 8 year-old.
