This year, the Pivot Program has introduced a new course to the curriculum, Introduction to AI, to help fellows adapt and grow alongside the changing technological landscape. This class introduces fellows to basic artificial intelligence (AI) tools and provides information on how to leverage them effectively – to enhance their personal brand, increase the chances of obtaining a job, streamline and support work, and offer immediate value to their employer.

Tremain Davis leads a session on how to use AI responsibly.

The class is led by Tremain Davis and Tanisha James, who each bring their expertise and experience from different professional fields. Davis is a technology entrepreneur with an interest in using technology for equitable community engagement and scalable economic development initiatives. Davis brings his leadership skills and experience working with both technology and start-ups directly to the Pivot fellows, allowing them to explore how AI can be leveraged within the business world.

Additionally, James is an award-winning M&A and antitrust attorney, venture capitalist, author, speaker, diversity champion, and mentor. Formerly an equity partner at Cooley LLP, she spent 15 years advising major corporate clients on mergers, acquisitions, and antitrust matters across industries like tech, life sciences, and consumer products. She recently transitioned from law to focus on venture capital, supporting underrepresented founders and pursuing creative and philanthropic work. The combination of both Davis’s and James’s industry experience allows the Pivot fellows to gain a well-rounded perspective and understanding of AI in a professional environment.

Tevin Richardson provides input during a class discussion.

Hear from the Pivot fellows in their own words about what the new AI class means to them:

“[The professors] have done a tremendous job in teaching us how to use AI. We’ve used several of the different platforms, and it is mind blowing.” – Leon

“[AI] has opened up a lot of doors for me towards learning quickly” – Melvin

My confidence going forward using AI and AI prompting has enhanced so much since I started taking this course.” – Allister

The best thing about AI is the time that it gives back. More time to do more important things because AI quickly [finishes] some of the work that I need done.” – Tre

This new class, along with the rest of the curriculum, equips Pivot fellows with the skills and confidence they need for their next career steps.
